Sparrow Clubs USA is primarily a Pacific Northwest charity, serving in the states of Oregon and Washington. This organization was inspired by the amazing charity displayed in 1992 by a seventh grader named Dameon who emptied his bank account – twelve five-dollar bills – and offered it to his PE teacher, who was unable to pay for a lifesaving bone marrow transplant for his nine-month-old son, Michael. Dameon’s act of kindness started a chain reaction of giving that resulted in enough to fund Michael’s transplant. Today, Sparrow Clubs exist to set the stage for simple yet heroic acts of kindness in schools and youth culture by empowering kids to help kids in medical need. More information regarding active Sparrow Clubs and Sparrow Clubs USA can be found on their website: http://www.sparrowclubs.org.

“In the spring of 2012, Lee Bates approached friend, Dr. Nancy Wilson, and proposed organizing a 4-part choir to be a "musical arm" of the Ellensburg Sparrow Club, for the purpose of presenting choral concerts to benefit "Sparrows" in the community. With enthusiastic support of Sparrow Club leadership, Lee began advertising and making contacts in the community. The choir's first rehearsal was held April 2012 in a small conference room on the Central Washington University campus. As the choir's membership began to expand, the rehearsal location moved to Ellensburg's First Presbyterian Church where 25 singers now meet weekly for 90-minute rehearsals. Members of the choir range in age from 20 to 80+. The non-audition ensemble loves making music for a worthwhile cause.”              (Lee Bates - Director, Ellensburg Sparrow Choir)

Danny Boy was written for the Ellensburg Sparrow Choir as a gift and donation to the choir in appreciation for the amazing cause for which they sing.
